Last Updated: 10/29/09
Here are videos of herons, chickens, penguins, ducks, geese, and
cormorants.
Videos are listed from newest to oldest.
Chickens - 1152 KB, mpg movie.
I tried to get a video of Petunia on 10/18/09. As you can see, she did not stick around long! Parts of
her parents can also be seen fleetingly.
Chickens - 1740 KB, mpg
movie.
This video is of one-day-old Petunia and her parents (mother Pondet and father/brother Speckles)
on 8/17/09.
Chickens - 1730 KB, mpg
movie.
This video is of two-day-old Petunia and her parents (mother Pondet and father/brother Speckles)
on 8/18/09.
Heron - 2047 KB, mpg movie.
On 12/9/07, the heron was standing by the 153 gallon pond until I opened the door and got him
to fly off.
Heron - 1696 KB, mpg movie.
He was slowly walking over to the 153 gallon pond, 12/9/07.
Heron - 1209 KB, mpg movie.
Here he was sitting on my 1800 gallon pond net, 12/9/07.
For photos of the same heron from that day, see the bottom of my heron page.
These videos were earlier ones of the same heron in the last two videos. He was around for
weeks.
Heron - 771 KB, mpg movie.
On 11/27/07, I got video of a great blue heron flying away from my 1800 gallon pond. This
video starts with the heron already in flight.
Heron - 1207 KB, mpg movie.
On 11/27/07, I got video of a great blue heron flying away from my 153 gallon pond. This video
starts with him on the ground. I then knocked on the window to get him to fly off.
For photos of the same heron from that day, see the bottom of my heron page.
Ducks and Geese - 1168 KB,
mpg movie.
Go to my page on the Catoctin
zoo for more on that video and associated photos.
Chicken Alert Call - 1200 KB, mpg movie.
On 7/28/07, I took this video of Speckles sending out his alert call. Why was he doing that? His
mother, Pondet, was in the nest box laying an egg which gets him all upset. Anyway, the video
just shows me walking towards my father's truck which is in front of the chicken house. There is
no video of the chickens, just the sound of Speckles' alarm call.
Chickens - 1491 KB, mpg
movie.
This video is of Chickie and Pondet on 5/26/07. You can hear Pondet talking to Chickie as they
are eating mealworms.
Chickens - 1499 KB, mpg
movie.
This video is of Chickie and Pondet on 5/23/07. You can hear Pondet talking to Chickie as they
are eating mealworms.
Chickens - 1991 KB, mpg
movie.
This is a video on 5/19/07 of the day old chick named Chickie with his/her mother Pondet. They
were still in the nest box, and I was putting in their first food as mother and chick. If you listen,
you can hear the chick peeping, Pondet gurgling to him/her, the father Speckles crowing, and a
hawk calling (right after the crow). Because of the hawks, the chickens have to be well
protected.
Chickens - 2517 KB, mpg
movie.
Here are my four chickens sometime in July of 2006. Both roosters are making the cluck noise
that males make to tell the girls that there is food about (I had just put in live mealworms). On
the ground is the older rooster, Sugar. On the roost half way up the tree is the hen, Poulet. On
the top roost that I pan up to are Pondet (hen on the left) and Speckles (rooster on the right, year
old son of Pondet and Sugar). Visit my chicken page.
Cormorants - 821 KB, mpg
movie.
This is a video of some cormorants flapping their wings to dry off at the Maryland Zoo on
6/7/06. Unlike most waterfowl, cormorants lack oil glands to waterproof their feathers.
Therefore, they must flap to dry off. To see photos from that day, go here.
Penguins - 1460 KB, mpg
movie.
This video shows African penguins at the Maryland Zoo on 6/7/06. They are being fed. A sea
gull flies by to steal some food.
Chickens - 1322 KB, mpg movie.
Here are Pondet, Speckles (my year old rooster), and Poulet up on the roost on 3/18/06. Speckles
makes a few gurgles in the video but it is not that exciting. For more information on them, see
my chicken page.
Sugar - 1188 KB mpg movie.
This is Sugar, my older rooster, eating some seed on 3/18/06. Near the end of the short video, he
makes the rooster call for the hens that means, "Here is the food, come eat it so I can take
advantage of you." The hens were up on the roost with Speckles as in the previous video taken at
the same time. For more information on them, see my chicken
page.
Chicken Crow - 1,797 KB, avi movie.
This video taken early 2004 in the snow shows Salty (white hen) and Beebee (dark rooster) who
is flapping. The crowing is from Sugar who is not seen. See my chicken page for more.
