1. On 9/6/09, I squirted off the flosses and the bioballs. The 1800 gallon was at 70 degrees F and the 153 gallon at 72 degrees F. I've been meaning to make a graph of the temperatures in my pond through all these years but never have. I cut down the yellow flag iris that regrew in the overflow area and tried to cut some of the rice cut grass which, even with gloves, was not fun. The hardy cannas keep falling down as they are so top heavy this time of the year. I removed six buckets of water lettuce.
2. Although not directly pond-related, on 9/9/09, a male peacock showed up on our property. He only stayed for the day (so far) but there was a chance I might have gotten a photo of a peacock by my pond. You can see photos of him here.
3. On 9/13/09, I squirted off the flosses and the Cyprio biothings in the kiddie pool. The 1800 gallon was at 68 degrees F and the 153 gallon at 70 degrees F. I removed four buckets full of water lettuce from the pond's surface. I put some fertilizer in the waterlilies only, the last time this year. I cut down some yellowing leaves of the hardy cannas. They are top heavy this time of the year and keep falling over.
4. I added some new pond-related photos. Instead of referring you to the pictures page, I will also post them in the blog so you do not have to search for the photos over there.
Patty and Morty sent these two photos of a bullfrog eating a bird on 9/13/09:

I put these photos on my site in early 2009 but lost the e-mail from the sender so that I cannot
properly give them credit.

Roj sent this photo of his pond in the Spring of 2009. I lost the e-mail and details but here is the

On 6/22/09, Roger sent this great (photo-wise not situation-wise) photo of a great blue heron at
his pond:

5. On 9/20/09, I squirted off the flosses. The 1800 gallon was at 64 degrees F and the 153 gallon at 66 degrees F. I took out 9 buckets of water lettuce. I put up the mosaic pond on the front porch for the year. There was a dead house finch in the 153 gallon pond!! I put out two new pond-related stepping stones.
6. These photos are from 9/20/09 at my pond:
New stepping stone
Big pond facing west, covered in water
lettuce even
after removing a ton of it; water celery on the falls to the right; impatiens blooming in the
floating island; half net on.
Pile of water lettuce - the mounting pile of
discarded
water lettuce. I also noticed on the right in that photo are remnants of a pond plant repotting
from at least a year ago. The roots hold the ball of rocks and dirt together for a long time.
7. On 9/27/09, I squirted off the flosses and they Cyprio things in the filter. The 1800 gallon was at 64 degrees F and the 153 gallon at 65 degrees F at 10 am. I only removed four buckets of water lettuce this day. I put the nets on the pond as next weekend (when the nets are due to go on), I'm going to the koi show so I'll have less time. The 153 gallon got a new net. It has much smaller holes, and it's white. It's very obtrusive. My mother doesn't like it and thinks it looks like a giant spider's web so she's going to find a big fake spider for it.
8. John sent these "egg" photos on 7/3/09. They
are bryozoans.
