Robyn's Pond Blog for August 2021

Last Updated: 9/6/21

1. At 1 pm on 8/1/21, it was 72 degrees F outside and raining lightly. The 1800 gallon pond was at 74 degrees F, and the 153 gallon pond was at 72 degrees F. I changed the filter material around the main pump. I changed the PondMaster filters. I squirted the other filter materials out. I put in additives and water.

2. At 12:54 pm on 8/8/21, the air temperature was 85 degrees F. The 1800 gallon pond was at 76 degrees F, and the 153 gallon pond was at 73 degrees F. I squirted off all the filter materials. I put fertilize in the three waterlily pots in the big pond. I always remove the yellowed or bad waterlily leaves but never note it here. I put in additives and water.

3. It was 73 degrees F at 10:20 am on 8/15/21. The 1800 gallon pond was at 77 degrees F, and the 153 gallon pond was at 75 degrees F. I squirted off the filter materials and the Biosteps Matala. I put in water additives and water. And, I stepped on and destroyed the koi kastle hiding area for the fish! I'm getting old, and I can't control my movements in water well, and I couldn't see it there but I knew that's where it was but somehow, I forgot.

4. At 12:44 on 8/22/21, the air temperature was 78 degrees F. The 1800 gallon pond's thermometer read 78 degrees F, and the 153 gallon pond's thermometer read 75 degrees F. I squirted off all the filter materials and the bioballs. I put in water additives and topped off the ponds with water. I potted up a new Hibiscus acetosella that I got half off at the hardware store. I put it in a two gallon pond pot but kept in on the deck. I may put it in the pond next year but it will have to come inside soon since it is a tropical hibiscus. It has red leaves and looks like a maple tree.

5. At 12:42 pm on 8/29/21, the air temperature was 78 degrees F again! The 1800 gallon was at 78 degrees F, and the 153 gallon was at 77 degrees F. I changed the PondMaster filters. I squirted all the filter materials. I changed the Ammocarb (actually not Ammocarb but another kind of carbon/zeolite mix). The pond looks abandoned since the gardens are all Japanese stilt grass when I honestly weeded and mulched half the area to the ground last spring, and now you can't tell. And, the pond itself looks neglected since I no longer have time to repot anything. On top of that, it's been years now since I've been able to add photos to my web site. I am ashamed of what has become of my ponds, web site, and life. As long as I have more work to do than I have time, things will only worsen. My web site is also maxed out on space so it would cost me hundreds of dollars more that I don't have to even make room for more photos. I don't know that anyone ever uses my web site anymore anyway. I'll have to let go someday. Sharing the information on my web site is the only good thing I do for the world. But, I'm getting older and poorer.
